Google Meet will start taking notes automatically in more meetings from 29 September

Google Meet's Take notes for me now opens on a one-page summary. From 29 September, a new setting turns on automatic notes for meetings with three or more people, and it is on by default for Business plans.

Google made two changes to Take notes for me, the Gemini note-taker in Google Meet, on 22 September. The first is Quick notes, a one-page summary of the main takeaways, outcomes and action items. The second is a new setting that turns on automatic note-taking only for meetings with three or more people.

Quick notes is now the first tab in the meeting notes document, with the full notes on a second tab, and it is also the summary you see in the follow-up email. It is available now on Business Standard and Plus, Enterprise Standard and Plus, Frontline Plus, Google AI Pro for Education, and Google AI Pro and Ultra. The new three-or-more setting takes effect on 29 September. On Business Standard and Plus it is on by default. On Enterprise, Frontline Plus and the Education add-on it is off by default. After 29 September, each person can also choose a new option to take notes for all meetings they host with three or more guests.

For a midsize business on a Business plan, this means Gemini may start taking notes in most team and client meetings next week without anyone switching it on. That can save someone writing up minutes. It also means a written record will exist for conversations where you may not want one.

Before 29 September, have whoever runs your Google admin console look at the setting and decide whether the default suits you. Tell your team it is coming, and agree which meetings should not have notes, such as HR, performance or sensitive client calls. Ask the meeting host to read the action items before they go out.

A one-page summary after every meeting is useful. Decide where you want it before the default decides for you.
