Gemini Notebook now works inside the Gemini app, so your research can stop living in seven different browser tabs

By , Founder of Adaptd ·

Since 23 October you can create Gemini Notebooks, add sources and ask questions of them straight from a Gemini chat. It's on for Workspace and personal Google accounts.

The short version

  • Gemini Notebook is now a connected app inside the Gemini app, so you can manage notebooks from a normal chat.
  • It's available now to all Google Workspace customers and personal Google accounts, and it's on by default outside Europe.
  • Try saving one useful chat into a notebook, and check your admin settings if you'd rather it stayed off.

Most research with AI ends the same way: a good answer, buried in a chat you'll never find again. Google has given those answers somewhere to go.

What changed in Gemini Notebook?

Gemini Notebook is now available as a connected app inside the Gemini app, Google announced on 23 October. Type @Gemini Notebook in a chat to create a notebook, add sources, save notes or pull information out of notebooks you already have.

Gemini can also work out when to use it on its own. Google's examples include adding a copy of the current chat to a notebook, listing the sources in a notebook and answering questions using what your notebooks contain.

Who can use it, and when?

Gemini Notebook in the Gemini app is available now to all Google Workspace customers, Workspace Individual subscribers and people with personal Google accounts. It's on by default everywhere except the European Economic Area, so Australian users should already see it.

Users can switch it off under Settings, then Connected Apps, in the Gemini app. Workspace admins control it through the existing Gemini and Gemini Notebook access settings, and it works for anyone who has both turned on.

Should your business use it?

Your business should try Gemini Notebook in the Gemini app if your team already does research or client prep in Gemini, because it keeps the useful answers with the source documents. Think of it as moving the good stuff off the whiteboard and into the filing cabinet before someone wipes it.

My take: pick one recurring job, like competitor notes or a client's background, and build a single notebook for it. Admins, check that the people who can turn it on are the ones you expect.

Your future self will thank you, probably while looking for something else.

Wondering what this means for your business?

That's exactly what the discovery call is for.
