Xero now works inside Google Gemini, so 'who owes us money?' is one question instead of three reports

By , Founder of Adaptd ·

Xero has launched a connected app for Google Gemini that answers questions from your live Xero data and draws charts. Anything that changes your books still needs your confirmation.

The short version

  • Xero has launched a connected app for Google Gemini that brings live Xero financial data into Gemini conversations.
  • Xero announced it on 14 October 2026 for small businesses and their advisors, with scheduled tasks coming later on eligible plans.
  • Start with read-only questions, and check every invoice or payment reminder before you confirm it.

Most business owners know the feeling of wanting one number from Xero and finding themselves twenty minutes later with three reports open. Xero would now like you to just ask.

What is Xero's connected app for Gemini?

Xero's connected app for Google Gemini lets you ask Gemini about your live Xero data and get the answer in the same chat. Xero announced it on 14 October 2026 and says it's the first financial management platform to launch a connected app for Gemini.

You can ask for a profit and loss statement, see which customers are overdue or check your cash position, and Gemini can turn the numbers into charts. Accountants and bookkeepers also get a way to switch between client organisations without leaving the chat.

Who can use it, and what's coming?

Xero's connected app for Gemini is for businesses and their advisors who use both Xero and the Gemini app. Xero published the announcement on its Australian site and hasn't named any country limits.

Xero says customers on eligible plans will soon be able to use Gemini's tasks for routine work, like a daily summary of bills and cash, or pairing Xero with Gmail to prepare follow-ups for overdue invoices. It hasn't said which plans count as eligible.

Should your business connect Xero to Gemini?

Businesses that already work in Google Workspace and Gemini should try the Xero connection for quick questions, because it replaces the export-and-scroll routine.

The guardrails are sensible. Anything that changes your books, like issuing an invoice or sending a payment reminder, needs your explicit confirmation first. Xero also says your data is used only for that session and isn't used to train Gemini models.

My take: start with questions, not actions. Ask about overdue invoices for a fortnight and check the answers against Xero before you let it draft anything a customer will read. It still won't find the receipt in your glovebox, mind you.
