Your Google Meet room can now join a Teams meeting

Google switched on built-in interoperability between Meet and Microsoft Teams on Android-based room hardware. It is in Early Preview, and it only covers meeting rooms.

Google turned on direct interoperability between Google Meet and Microsoft Teams on Android (AOSP) room hardware.
What does Meet and Teams room interoperability do?
Meet and Teams interoperability lets an Android-based Meet device join a Teams meeting, and an Android-based Teams Rooms device join a Meet call. Google announced it on 2 September. The admin console setting finished rolling out on 31 August, and end-user visibility on Early Preview devices completed by 7 September for Rapid Release domains.
The meeting room is where a mixed stack hurts. You standardised on Workspace, your biggest client runs Teams, and someone dials in from a laptop propped on a chair while the room screen sits idle. Fixing it at the device level means the room works whoever sent the invite.
Which meeting rooms can use it?
Only compatible hardware can use it. The feature is built in, with no separate gateway service to license, and Google says all Workspace customers with compatible hardware get it. That word compatible is the catch. This is Android (AOSP) room gear, not the laptop on your desk and not older ChromeOS-based Meet devices.
Should your business plan around it yet?
Not yet. Early Preview means limited availability and more changes to come, so do not rebuild your AV plan around it. The useful move now is finding out what your room devices actually run. Google is moving Meet room hardware from ChromeOS to Android and will support ChromeOS devices until September 2030, so that answer also tells you roughly when the hardware conversation is coming.
