Google Calendar on the web can now show three time zones at once

Google Calendar has gone from two time zones to three, with your own labels on each. It is rolling out to Workspace and personal accounts from 25 September.

You set it up in Calendar settings, and you can give each time zone a short label, like SYD, LON or NYC, so you can tell the columns apart. The time zones show down the left side of the Day, Week and custom views, and in Find a Time when you are booking a meeting. It is available to all Google Workspace customers, Workspace Individual subscribers and personal Google accounts. Rapid Release domains get it gradually over up to 15 days from 25 September, and Scheduled Release domains from 12 October. There is no admin setting, so each person turns it on for themselves.

For an Australian business working with suppliers in Asia and clients in the US or UK, two time zones was often one short. With three, whoever is booking a call can see everyone's working hours on the same screen, which makes it harder to book someone at 6am by mistake.

Because admins cannot switch it on for everyone, send staff a short note on where to find it, especially the people who book most of your external meetings. Pick labels that match the offices or clients you actually deal with, and remember that daylight saving changes on different dates in different countries, so check the columns again when the clocks move.

This is a small change that avoids a common scheduling mistake. It takes a couple of minutes to set up.
