Microsoft Copilot and Teams are moving to new web addresses in October

Microsoft is redirecting Copilot to copilot.cloud.microsoft and Teams to teams.cloud.microsoft. If your firewall or web filter blocks the new addresses, staff could lose access.

Microsoft is changing the web addresses for two apps most businesses use every day. The Microsoft 365 Copilot app is being renamed Microsoft Copilot, and its web address is moving from m365.cloud.microsoft to copilot.cloud.microsoft. Teams is moving to teams.cloud.microsoft.

Microsoft started redirecting users to the new Copilot address in early September in organisations where it is already reachable. Organisations that block copilot.cloud.microsoft will be redirected in October. Computerworld reports the Teams move is already under way, that all redirects should be finished by early October, and that some Teams exceptions may run until 31 December. Microsoft's advice is to make sure devices, proxies, firewalls and web gateways allow connections to *.cloud.microsoft.

For a midsize business, the risk is simple. If an IT provider or a security tool has an allowlist that does not include the new addresses, people may open Copilot or Teams one morning and find it will not load. According to Computerworld, businesses that blocked the new Copilot address on purpose can use Microsoft's Tenant Restrictions control instead.

This week, send a short note to whoever manages your network or Microsoft 365, whether that is in-house IT or an outside provider. Ask them to confirm that *.cloud.microsoft is allowed on office networks, VPNs and managed laptops, and to check message MC1462915 in the Microsoft 365 admin centre. If you cannot make the change by October, Microsoft suggests contacting your account representative.

A short check now can save you from a morning where Teams and Copilot will not load.
