Anthropic is giving young companies a free year of Claude Team, which beats the usual 14-day trial and a reminder email
By Brett Gavaghan, Founder of Adaptd ·
Anthropic expanded its Claude for Startups program on 6 October. Approved companies get a free year of Claude Team, US$1,000 in API credits and partner discounts.
The short version
- Anthropic's Claude for Startups program now gives approved companies a free year of Claude Team and US$1,000 in API credits.
- The expanded program opened on 6 October 2026 for companies founded in the last five years or funded in the last two.
- If your business qualifies, apply before you pay for seats, and read the program terms first.
Free software usually means a 14-day trial and a reminder email you forget to act on. Anthropic's new startup offer runs for a whole year.
What is the Claude for Startups program?
Claude for Startups is Anthropic's program for young companies, and on 6 October it expanded to include a free year of Claude Team plus US$1,000 in Claude API credits.
Claude Team is Anthropic's paid plan for groups, and TechCrunch reports the free year covers up to five premium seats. Approved companies also get partner offers Anthropic values at up to US$45,000, such as deals on Granola, Gamma and ElevenLabs, plus virtual office hours with Anthropic's Applied AI team.
Who can apply?
Companies founded in the last five years, or that received funding in the last two years, can apply through the Claude for Startups page.
On paper that reaches past the hoodie-and-pitch-deck crowd, though Anthropic decides who gets approved. The benefits sit under its Startup Program Terms, so read those before you plan around them.
Should your business apply?
Businesses that meet the age or funding rule and already pay for AI seats, or plan to, should apply.
My take: a free year is a fair test of whether a shared AI workspace changes how your team works, without arguing over the line item. Check what happens to your seats after twelve months and put a reminder in for month ten. The free year ends whether or not you were paying attention, and the invoice won't send a calendar invite first.
