Claude Duet is a new app that briefs you each morning and keeps working while you're out, like a PA who never needs a coffee run

By , Founder of Adaptd ·

Anthropic opened a research preview of Claude Duet on 21 October, an app where Claude messages you first. It's US-only for now, for Pro and Max subscribers.

The short version

  • Claude Duet is a new Anthropic app that sends a morning brief and works on tasks you hand it by message.
  • It opened on 21 October as a waitlisted research preview for US Pro and Max subscribers; it's not in Australia or on Team plans yet.
  • Australian businesses can't use it yet, so decide now which jobs you'd hand an assistant and which still need your approval.

Most AI tools sit there like a very clever filing cabinet, waiting for you to open the drawer. Claude Duet is Anthropic's first go at one that knocks on your door instead.

What is Claude Duet?

Claude Duet is a new Anthropic app where Claude works as a proactive agent: it comes to you with what needs your attention, works on tasks you hand it, and checks with you before acting on your behalf. Anthropic built it for professionals and small business owners.

Each morning it sends a short brief drawn from your connected apps, then messages you during the day only when something needs you. You can hand it jobs by text or voice, from scheduling a meeting to chasing unpaid invoices or building a dashboard. It runs on Claude Opus 5.5 and uses your existing Claude memory and connectors.

Who can use it, and when?

Claude Duet is a research preview on a waitlist for Claude Pro and Max subscribers in the US, announced on 21 October. Team and Enterprise plans aren't included yet, and Anthropic hasn't said when it will reach Australia.

It's an app for iOS and Android, and also works at claude.ai. It shares your plan's usage limits, including its background checks. It asks before sending messages or paying for anything, and never directly sees your passwords.

What should your business do about it?

Australian businesses can't sign up for Claude Duet yet, so the useful work now is deciding what you'd hand it. Anthropic itself warns Duet may misread a thread or get the urgency of something wrong.

My take: this is where AI assistants are heading, and the first businesses to benefit will be the ones with tidy inboxes and clear rules about what needs a human tick. Write down three jobs you'd happily delegate and three you never would. That list stays useful whichever assistant turns up first.

A PA that reads your inbox before you do is handy. Just make sure it knows which emails are yours to answer.
