Claude Cowork and chat are becoming one app, with new Docs and Slides tools

Anthropic is folding Cowork into the main Claude chat and adding Claude Docs and Claude Slides. Pro and Max get it first, with Team and Free to follow.

Anthropic is merging Claude Cowork and Claude chat into a single app. You no longer pick between the two. You ask for something and Claude works out whether it needs a quick answer or a longer task. The change started rolling out on 16 September.

Two new tools come with it. Claude Docs lets you and Claude write a document together inside the conversation. Claude Slides drafts a presentation in the chat, which you can edit and download as PowerPoint or PDF. Claude Design, which was a separate product, now works inside conversations too. The rollout reaches Pro and Max plans over the coming weeks, with Team and Free plans soon after. Enterprise admins get at least 30 days' notice and decide when the new features switch on.

For a midsize business, this cuts out a step. Until now Cowork sat in its own tab, and you had to decide up front whether a job belonged there or in chat. Now the same chat window can take a request like 'turn these meeting notes into a client proposal and a five-slide deck' and produce both files.

By default, Claude still asks before it takes an action. You can switch on a mode where it keeps working and only checks in when it needs a decision. Leave the default on while your team learns what Claude does well, and keep the more independent mode for jobs where a wrong step is easy to undo. If you are on a Team plan, tell staff the change is coming so the new layout does not confuse them.
