Claude Code can now keep working after you close your laptop

Anthropic has made cloud sessions for Claude Code generally available. Existing Pro and Max subscribers can claim a one-time credit of $100 or $250 to try them, until 7 October.

Anthropic announced on 23 September that cloud sessions for Claude Code are now generally available, after a period in research preview. A cloud session runs Claude Code on Anthropic's servers instead of your own computer, so the work keeps going after you close the laptop. You can come back to it later from any device you are signed in on.

You can start a session from claude.ai/code, the Claude mobile app, the desktop app, or with the command claude --cloud in the terminal. You need a GitHub connection, because each session works on its own copy of your code on a separate branch. That means you review the changes before anything is merged. To help people try it, existing Pro subscribers can claim a one-time $100 credit and Max subscribers $250. The claim deadline is 7 October, and you claim it with /claim-credit in Claude Code or on the Claude website. Anthropic says cloud sessions otherwise run on your normal plan usage, and the credit is spent first.

For a midsize business, this matters if you have a developer, a contractor or a technical person building internal tools. Long jobs like updating a set of scripts or fixing a batch of small bugs no longer tie up someone's computer for the afternoon. They can start the job, go to a meeting, and check the result from their phone.

Before you hand it real work, decide which code it is allowed to touch. Start with a low-risk repository, keep the rule that a person reviews every change before it is merged, and keep an eye on usage once the credit runs out. If your team is on a Team or Enterprise plan, check with Anthropic whether the credit applies to you, because the offer was announced for Pro and Max.

If someone in your business already uses Claude Code, the free credit is a cheap way to find out whether background sessions save them time.
