Zapier's Next Gen Zaps can be built by describing them to Claude or ChatGPT

Zapier announced Next Gen Zaps at ZapConnect 2026. You can describe an automation in an AI tool, run lists past the old 500-item limit, and pause a run for a person to check it.

Zapier announced Next Gen Zaps at its ZapConnect 2026 event on 24 September. It is a new way to build and run automations, and you can describe what you want in plain language from AI tools like Claude, ChatGPT and Cursor, as well as build in Zapier itself or on a visual canvas.

The changes are mostly about handling messier work. Loops no longer stop at 500 items, so a long list of orders or contacts can go through in one run. Branches can split and join back up, and loops can sit inside other loops. A Zap can keep going when one step fails, and it can pause partway through to wait for a person to approve something or to pick up again at a set time. Zapier has also added monitoring agents that look at failed runs and either apply a fix or suggest one. Next Gen Zaps are available on the Pro, Team and Enterprise plans through an early access request, and on Team plans an account owner or admin has to approve that request.

If your team has held off automating a process because it had too many exceptions or needed a manager to sign off halfway through, some of those blockers are now gone. Approval steps and error handling used to mean workarounds or a second tool.

Zapier's announcement does not say what happens to pricing, task limits or your existing Zaps, so hold off on rebuilding anything that already works. A better first step is to pick one process that currently breaks or needs a person in the middle, request early access, and try it there. If you let a monitoring agent apply fixes, check what it changed before you rely on it.

Describing an automation in plain language will make building faster. You still need to be clear about what the process should do when something goes wrong.
