Trello can now turn a Google Chat message into a task card, so 'can you look into this?' stops vanishing up the thread

By , Founder of Adaptd ·

Trello for Google Workspace, announced on 6 October, creates Trello cards from Gmail emails and Google Chat messages without leaving the conversation.

The short version

  • Trello for Google Workspace lets you create a Trello card from an email in Gmail or a message in Google Chat.
  • It's available now to all Google Workspace customers and personal Google accounts, and you need a Trello account to use it.
  • If your team already runs on Trello and Google Chat, add the app to your busiest space and agree what counts as a card.

Every team has a chat thread where a job was clearly agreed and then never seen again. Trello would like a word with that thread.

What is Trello for Google Workspace?

Trello for Google Workspace is an app that turns Gmail emails and Google Chat messages into Trello cards without you switching tabs. Google announced it on 6 October 2026. It replaces the older Trello for Gmail add-on and adds Google Chat.

In Chat, you pick 'Create card from message' from a message's menu, and the card lands on your Trello board. Existing Trello for Gmail users keep working without reinstalling or signing in again.

Who can use it, and how do you set it up?

Trello for Google Workspace is available now to all Google Workspace customers and to personal Google accounts, and you'll need a Trello account. There's no staged rollout to wait for.

Admins can install it for the whole team from the Google Workspace Marketplace, or let staff install it themselves. To use it in Chat, add the app to a space or direct message and follow the sign-in prompt.

Should your business use it?

Businesses that already manage work in Trello and talk in Google Chat should try the app in one busy space first.

My take: this is a small, sensible tool that does one job. It won't decide what's a task, though. Agree a simple rule, like 'if it has a deadline or a name on it, it becomes a card', or you'll end up with a board full of 'sounds good'. A job in a chat thread is a note on the whiteboard. A job on a card is on the fridge, where someone might actually see it.

Wondering what this means for your business?

That's exactly what the discovery call is for.
