Your ChatGPT plan can now pay for AI inside Notion and 15 other apps, like a bar tab you can cap

Sign in with ChatGPT now lets Plus and Pro subscribers spend their plan's usage in 16 partner apps, including Notion, Devin and Vercel, with a weekly cap per app. Logging out of an app doesn't disconnect it.

Most of us pay for more AI subscriptions than we'd like to admit, and OpenAI's latest change might trim one or two. Announced at its DevDay event this week, Sign in with ChatGPT now lets Plus and Pro subscribers use their plan's included usage inside 16 partner apps, including Notion and Devin, as well as Vercel and Warp. You sign in to the app with your ChatGPT account, and its AI requests count against the ChatGPT Work and Codex allowance you already pay for. You don't need an API key or a second bill.

You control how much each app can use with a weekly cap, set as a percentage of your overall usage in ChatGPT's settings. OpenAI's guide says the cap is a ceiling rather than a reservation: it doesn't set usage aside for that app or raise your total. Signing in shares your name, email address and profile picture with the app, but not your conversations or memories. Free and Go users can sign in to these apps but can't share plan usage, and OpenAI describes the feature as a limited preview.

For a small team, this is mostly about consolidation. If someone pays for an AI add-on in one of these apps as well as ChatGPT Plus, one plan may soon do the job of both. It works a bit like a bar tab: very handy, as long as you know who's ordering on it.

My advice: learn the one catch before anyone connects anything. Signing out of the partner app doesn't disconnect it, and the app can keep drawing on your plan. To cut it off, go to Settings, then Security and login, open Sign in with ChatGPT, pick the app and choose Disconnect. Set a sensible weekly cap for each app on day one, and if these are work accounts, keep a short list of which apps are connected to whose plan.

One subscription doing the work of two is the kind of AI news I like. Treat each connection like a spare key: know who has it, and ask for it back when you're done.
