Notion 3.8 lets you use your ChatGPT plan inside Notion, so you can stop paying for the same AI twice

By , Founder of Adaptd ·

Notion 3.8 lets Business and Enterprise teams cover their AI use in Notion with a ChatGPT Plus or Pro plan. It also connects outside agents through MCP and adds column permissions for databases.

The short version

  • Notion 3.8 lets ChatGPT Plus or Pro subscribers use their plan to cover AI usage inside Notion.
  • Notion released 3.8 on 13 October 2026, and the ChatGPT plan option is for Notion's Business and Enterprise plans.
  • If your team pays for both, connect the plan, and set column permissions before agents get into your databases.

Plenty of small teams pay for ChatGPT and then pay again for the AI inside Notion. Notion's latest update has a refreshingly honest headline about that: don't pay twice.

What changed in Notion 3.8?

Notion 3.8, released on 13 October 2026, connects AI agents to your Notion workspace and lets you pay for Notion's AI with a ChatGPT plan.

Agents that support MCP, a common standard for plugging AI into apps, can now read your Notion pages and update docs and task trackers. Notion's own agents can reach more than 150 tools the same way, such as HubSpot and Stripe. Admins can see who connected each AI tool and revoke one person's access without touching anyone else's.

What's in it for small teams?

The headline change for small teams is that a ChatGPT Plus or Pro subscription can now cover your AI usage in Notion on the Business and Enterprise plans. You connect the plan, pick a GPT model, and Notion says it adds no markup.

Column permissions let a database owner choose which properties each person or agent can see or edit, so a hiring tracker can hide salaries. Version history now shows what each person and agent changed, with a quick restore, which helps when an agent tidies a page you liked untidy.

Should your business use it?

Teams already paying for ChatGPT Plus or Pro and Notion Business should try connecting the ChatGPT plan, then check the next Notion invoice to see what changed.

My take: set column permissions before you connect any agent to a database with pay rates, client fees or personal details. An agent can only use what it can see, so decide what it sees first. After that, one AI subscription doing two jobs is maths everyone can get behind.
