ChatGPT on your phone can now hold your work and personal accounts at once, so the holiday plans stay out of the client chat

ChatGPT's iOS and Android apps are rolling out account switching. You can stay signed in to two accounts and switch between them, each with its own chats and memory.

The short version

  • The ChatGPT iOS and Android apps now let you stay signed in to up to two accounts and switch between them.
  • Each account keeps its own chats and memory; find it under Settings, then Switch account.
  • If staff use ChatGPT for work on their phones, ask them to keep work chats in the work account.

Plenty of people have one ChatGPT account for work and one for everything else, and a phone that only liked one of them. That just got easier to keep tidy.

What is ChatGPT account switching?

ChatGPT account switching lets you stay signed in to up to two ChatGPT accounts in the iOS and Android apps and move between them without signing out. OpenAI says it is rolling out now.

Each account keeps its own chats, memory, settings and subscription. So the work account's memory doesn't learn about your kid's birthday party, and your personal account doesn't pick up a client's pricing.

How do you set it up?

You set up account switching in the ChatGPT app by going to Settings, then Switch account, and signing in to the second account.

It's a phone feature for now. OpenAI's note covers the iOS and Android apps, and says nothing about the desktop app or the web.

What should your business do about it?

Your business should use this to keep work chats in a work account, especially if you pay for a ChatGPT Business plan.

My advice: if your team has a business plan, tell them to add the work account to their phone and use it for anything about clients or money. Business data then sits under the plan you pay for and its settings, not in someone's personal account where you can't see or control it. If you don't pay for a business plan yet, this is a good nudge to decide which account is the work one.

Two accounts, one phone, no more 'which one did I ask that in?'

Wondering what this means for your business?

That's exactly what the discovery call is for.
