GPT-6 lets ChatGPT answer with charts, buttons and calculators, for questions a wall of text was never going to fix
By Brett Gavaghan, Founder of Adaptd ·
OpenAI started rolling out GPT-6 with Intelligent UI in ChatGPT on 7 October. Answers can now include diagrams and small working tools you use right in the chat.
The short version
- GPT-6 in ChatGPT can now build answers that include visuals and interactive tools, such as a working calculator.
- Paid plans got it on 7 October 2026 using GPT-6 Sol; Free and Go users get GPT-6 Luna from 8 October.
- Try it on a question you usually answer with a spreadsheet, then check the numbers before anyone relies on them.
Some questions deserve a paragraph. Others, like "what does this quote look like over three years?", deserve a little calculator. ChatGPT can now tell the difference, most of the time.
What is Intelligent UI in ChatGPT?
Intelligent UI is a GPT-6 feature that lets ChatGPT mix text with visuals and interactive pieces, depending on the question.
A comparison might come back side by side, and an explanation as a diagram you can poke at. Ask for a bill splitter and you get a working one inside the chat. When plain text is the better answer, ChatGPT still gives you plain text. GPT-6 can also start answering while it keeps thinking or searching, then add to the answer without another prompt. OpenAI says GPT-6 Instant starts answering web search questions 44% sooner on average than GPT-5.6 Instant.
Who can use it, and when?
Paid ChatGPT plans, from Plus up to Enterprise, started getting GPT-6 with Intelligent UI on 7 October 2026. Free and Go users get it from 8 October.
Paid plans run on GPT-6 Sol, the free tiers on GPT-6 Luna. Enterprise access depends on workspace admin settings. The Pro reasoning option still uses GPT-6 Astra without Intelligent UI. The models behind Work and Codex haven't changed.
Should your business use it?
Small businesses on ChatGPT should try Intelligent UI on the questions they currently answer with a quick spreadsheet, like comparing two pricing options.
My take: a tool you can adjust is easier to explain to a client than a paragraph of maths, and it's faster than building the spreadsheet yourself. Check the numbers before you send anything, though. A calculator that looks official is still only as right as the formula behind it, and it won't blush when it's wrong.
